J-League update for week 24

From J-League action this week, the race to the championship still has Nagoya out front at the end of week twenty-four but Kashima, Urawa and Ōita tied three points behind and Kawasaki Frontale only one point behind them.

Past the Urawa – Ōita match, Nagoya Grampus defeated Gamba Osaka 1-0 on a early goal by Yoshizumi Ogawa in what was a very defensive match.

In the other match that directly impacts the title race the Kashima Antlers and Kawasaki Frontale played to a 1-1 draw in a much more open match. All the scoring came in a five minute period with Marquinhos giving the lead for Kashima twenty-two minutes after the break only to have the lead taken back with Japan’s Olympian Hiroyuki Taniguchi five minutes later. Kashima was pressuring near the end but could not break the deadlock.
